Fine Art by Don Heitkotter, San Juan Bautista, Calif

Don Heitkotter, California artist, is most known for his California lanscapes.  Born and raised in the Fresno area Don paints mostly from memory. These golden rolling hills hold a special place in his heart.

Monterey inspiration

After spending a few years in Monterey, it's easy to see that Don gets ideas from the famed Pebble Beach area and surrounding coastline.

Versatility

Whether it's a radical desert sunset, a Sierra mountain lake moorise or spooky lunar abberration Don paints what he truly feels like painting. This man's art needs no windy, rambling, psuedo-intellectual explanations.

15 minutes of fame

.

Jessica Walter, Don Heitkotter, Donna Mills and Clint Eastwood circa 1969.

Don had a chance meeting of Clint Eastwood at the famed Sardine Factory restaurant in Monterey and was commissioned to do the paintings for the 1969 movie "Play Misty For Me" Starring Clint, Jessica Walter and the lucsious Donna Mills. This above, the original, was accompanied by two lesser copies that Jessica used to slash in practice and for the "take". The original remained unharmed as it was used for closeups. Donna Mills played Clint's, (Dave's) girlfriend,Toby, an artist herself in the script. If you watch the movie closely you will notice that several of Don's paintings decorate the walls on the set meant to be Toby's studio.

Don Heitkotter today just getting rolling at the age of 76.

San Juan Bautista

Some shots of the town, the mission and the surrounding area of San Juna Bautisita.

A lovely place to visit and explore. It seems there is always a craft show or a Rod run or something going on in San Jaun. An excellent place to waste a few hours. There are plenty of roads off the beaten path to take an afternoon cruise with your car or motorcycle.
